A Tabriz woven carpet that shows Amir Kabir, born in 1807, was a prominent Iranian reformer and statesman during the Qajar dynasty. Serving as the Prime Minister under Naser al-Din Shah, he initiated significant reforms aimed at modernizing Iran, including the establishment of Dar al-Fonun, the country’s first modern higher education institution. His efforts also extended to administrative, financial, and military reforms, which sought to strengthen the nation and reduce foreign influence. Despite his contributions, Amir Kabir faced opposition from conservative factions and was eventually dismissed and executed in 1852.
